| Agriculture
is the main industry. Barley, oats, and potatoes are the main crops. Coal mines at Ballycastle were worked until recently. Lignite (brown coal) is found in large quantities in the county, although there is much opposition to its extraction. Most of Northern Ireland's electricity is generated by stations at Ballylumford and Kilroot. Iron ore and limestone were mined up until the 1970's.
